West Coast Trout Fishing Trips

There are five major rivers suitable for fishing all within a 15 minute drive from The Homestead, in addition to the river fishing directly on our property.
 
The Rough River's clear water makes excellent flyfishing in its lower reaches. Local fishing guides are available at reasonable rates $NZ 400 per day for one or two anglers. Helicopter flights to upper reaches of the Rough River also are available direct from The Homestead. The cost varies according your specific requirements (price on application). Licences and all tackle are provided.
 
Fishermen here regularly catch Brown Trout weighing from 4½-8 pounds (2-3½ kg).

High Country Seven Day Trip

Seven day all inclusive fully guided adventure fly fishing trip. Fishing high country rivers such as, The Hope/Kiwi Rivers, The Jacobs and Boyle River in the Lewis Pass on the way to the West Coast. Then on to the West Coast fishing the Clear Grey the Upper Grey the Robinson and Rough Rivers. Accommodation is in shearers quarters and musterers huts at the top of the mountain valleys then to the homestead at Ikamatua. All food, wine, beer and travel provided. The trip is for two anglers and departs from Christchurch and returns to Christchurch.

Professional Guided Trips

Also we are please to announce that well known guide and angling writer Graeme Marshall is back and intends to be our guide in the forthcoming season. Graeme and his wife Raewyn were formerly based at Ngatimoti in the Nelson district. After A few years on the West Coast they are now in Canterbury and available for guiding through Bill Clayton in The West Coast area only.
 
Graeme is well known for his landmark books Stalking Trout, Catching Trout and images of silver, Written in conjunction with top photographer Les Hill. In 2005 they released Stalking and catching Trout, a completely new title which attempts to capture the spirit of the South Island trout fishing.
 
Graeme is pleased to be associated with Bill and Jan Clayton.
